Tiny Travel & Personal WiFi Routers

Several Small WiFi Routers

If you travel a lot or want to clean up your office space, you know what a lifesaver a small WiFi router can be.

There are a lot of options out there. So, we’ve boiled them down to our favorite 3, in hopes that we can save you some time sifting through the piles of data.

Unfortunately, none of them completely met our dreams. For example, a 4-port travel router would be welcome with open arms. Oh well, someday…

In no particular order, here are our top 3 routers:

1) Apple Airport Express

3.7 x 3 x 1.1 Inches (but integrates the power adapter!)
The Apple Airport Express is probably the cream of the crop wireless travel router by most people’s standards. It’s not quite as small as many of the other routers we came across, but the power adapter is integrated in the router, so there are no extra wires, adapters, or carrying case. The overall package is probably about as small as they come.

It also includes an internal USB print server so you can easily hook up a printer.

It should also be noted, that although this product is made by Apple, it is compatible with Windows.

2) ASUS WL-330gE

3.4 x 2.4 x 0.66 Inches
This portable router comes with 4 functions: Access Point, Ethernet Adapter, Gateway, and Universal Repeater.

Overall this router is compact and easy to setup. The connection is reliable but the USB power cable is a bit short. Still this router is a winner as far as we are concerned.

3) D-Link DAP-1350 Wireless N Pocket Router

3.6 x 2.6 x 0.8 Inches
This is another solid router. Although we have to admit the range seemed a little poor. We had some connectivity issues as far as only 20ft away.

However, if you are using this in a hotel room or confined space this router should work well for you.

Broadband vs. Narrowband Router: What’s the difference?

There’s a lot to learn when it comes to router technology. One of the most frequent questions I get asked is “What’s the difference between a broadband and narrowband router?” From a layman’s point of view, a narrowband router is the one your parents had. Yeah, the one connected to the 56kbps modem. If they [...]

D-Link pocket router that fits in your hand

Welcome to my blog on small wireless routers. This won’t be a full review, but as I just started this blog I’d like to at least add a teaser until I have a chance to generate some real content.

At only 2.4 ounces and a package size of 0.8 x 3.6 x 2.6 inches the D-Link DAP-1350 Wireless N Pocket Router is a small router! The range is only about 20 feet but if you travel a lot and size is critical this is a great investment.
